To ensure a fairer trading environment and mitigate price distortions caused by liquidity fluctuations, Bybit is updating its index price calculation logic. This update will be implemented in batches starting in February 2026.

We are enhancing the [current index price mechanism](https://www.bybit.com/en/help-center/article/Index-Price-Calculation?category=cd60af6303161fd598) by adding an Orderbook-Weighted Price component.

When trading activity is low or the last traded price on a constituent exchange appears abnormal, the system will automatically reference the best bid and ask prices — along with their order sizes — across all index constituent exchanges to calculate a more reliable and accurate index price.

ob Price = (AskPrice1 × BidVolume1 + BidPrice1× AskVolume1) ÷ (BidVolume1+ AskVolume1)

This method assigns greater weight to price levels with larger resting liquidity. In practice, when one side of the orderbook becomes significantly thinner, the weighted price tilts toward it, making it easier for the price to move in that direction. This results in an index price that more accurately reflects real supply and demand, even when trading volume is low.

Even during periods of low or no trading activity, the index price will better reflect actual orderbook depth and real-time market supply and demand.

 The update minimizes sudden mark price spikes or drops caused by low liquidity or unusual trades on constituent exchanges.

A more accurate mark price helps ensure that take-profit, stop-loss, and liquidation triggers align with true market conditions, reducing unnecessary liquidations caused by short-term price distortions.

- This update applies to Spot and Perpetual Contracts listed on or after Feb 1, 2026.
